The Brigade Water Heater Vs. The Others
Efficiency
The Brigade (made in USA) is one of the most efficient yet compact water heater on the market. In addition to the ultra compact footprint, the Brigade has a 7:1 turndown ratio. With this impressive modulation capability, the unit will not over-cycle which will prolong its life-cycle.
Avoid bacteria growth
With a circulator pump, the Brigade will operate more efficiently and will not experience over-cycling issues commonly prevalent in tank-type water heaters. It has been an established fact that hot water rises to the top of the storage tank and the cooler water remains in the bottom. This results in two different temperature zones inside the tank. Therefore the water heater is forced to cycle on and off to maintain the temperature set-point. Conversely, with a circulator pump the Brigade will last longer than any other water heater. Brigade's robust design with only a 25 gallon buffer tank inside the heat exchanger and a circulator pump eliminates many concerns common in tank-type water heaters. The water is never stagnant and the temperature is constantly being blended.
Brigade
The Brigade commercial water heater is one of PVI's latest creations. In addition to featuring the smallest carbon footprint, the U.S. made Brigade can meet a wide array of building hot water demands, especially in very tight spaces. With a 16” width and zero clearance on the sides and back, the Brigade can fit in half the space of a traditional commercial water heater. Users can create system redundancy by placing two Brigades in the space of one tank heater. Users will be pleased to know that PVi’s AquaPlex made Brigade’s 25-gallon storage tank (can act as a buffer for small water heating loads) and heat exchanger unit. These components are also backed by a full 6-year warranty. Because of Brigade's 7 to 1 turndown of the combustion system, it can track and adjust to a building's hot water demand with ease and accuracy. With longer runtimes and fewer cycling issues within the burner, the Brigade offers longer component life and higher efficient operation. What's more, it weighs in at approximately 355 lbs. That's why it can be easily maneuvered with a hand truck or transported up the stairs without requiring expensive delivery services or specialized stair climbing dollies.
Competing models
Unlike the Brigade, a wide array of competing models was made with similar construction methods and offered limited operation. Heat exchanges, heat transfer flue tubes, and glass lined tanks are the most common designs and will have a 3-year warranty in a commercial application and have a common theme of water leaks shortly after the warranty expires and frequently replacing water heater components within a 3-4 year range. All glass lined water heaters require cathodic protection due to the porosity of the glass lining and holidays or voids that occur in the lining. Without cathodic protection, which in most cases requires routine maintenance to be effective, the heater will fail shortly after the useful life of the anode or with the failure of an electronic anode system. Much like with tankless water heaters, water quality and performing routine maintenance will have a large factor on the life of the water heater and success of their operation. Especially whilst dealing in a restaurant setting where NSF5 is a requirement, the Brigade is fully compliant without any modifications making it the go to restaurant water heater.
